About Us

The Port au Port Indian Band represents status and non-status Mi’kmaw people within the boundaries of our territory. Our Mi’kmaw territory is bounded by Gaudon’s Brook, and the West of Campbell’s Creek. Our designated Mi’kmaw communities include: Kippens, Campbell’s Creek, Port au Port East, Port au Port West, Aguathuana, Boswarlos, Felix Cove, Point au Mal and Fox Island River.

The Port au Port Indian Band is a proud Mi’kmaq Nation in Western Newfoundland, Canada. The band was formed in the early 1970s and an affiliated band of the Federation of Newfoundland (FNI) since 1972. The band was incorporated as a non-profit in 2003, and is a predecessor to the federally recognized Qalipu First Nation (QFN).

The mandate of the band is derived from the Federation of Newfoundland Indians by-laws. Our mandate is to ensure the social, cultural, education, and economic growth of the Mi’kmaw within our territory.
